The two worlds in the poems Essay The poems I am comparing are presents from my aunts in Pakistan by Moniza Alvi, two scavengers in a truck, two beautiful people in a Mercedes by Lawerence Ferlinghetti and nothings changed by Tatamkhulu Afrika. All these three poems compare two different worlds. The poem by Moniza Alvi compares the Asian traditions and the western traditions. The poem by Tatamkhulu Afrika compares how white people and black people where treated in Africa after a war. The poem by Lawerence Ferlinghetti compares the world between rich, wealthy people and the poor people in San Francisco. The poem Nothings changed is written by a poet who returns to his homeland after a part of the country was declared as whites only. The country that the poet calls his homeland is now destroyed and the poet expresses the anger he felt when the place was first destroyed. He now sees new restaurants which look expensive and stylish with a guard at the gatepost. And further down the road he sees a working mens cafi where people eat without plates from a plastic tabletop. This situation makes him really angry because the white people were seated inside the exclusive restaurant with its ice white glasses and single rose on the table while the black people in Africa ate on plastic table top and wiped their hands on their jeans. The poem is set out in six stanzas and each of the stanzas consists of eight lines which are fairly short. Stanza one consists of a single sentence and it describes what the sees when he first walks into the country that was his homeland cans trodden on crunch in tall purple flowering, amiable weeds. This shows how the poet feels when he sees his homeland. The second stanza has a repetition of and and it also shows that the poet feels the racial separation in this country in every bone in his body, eg my feet know, and my hands, and the skin about my bones. The remaining paragraphs explain the poets feelings towards the white people. The title of the poem refers to the wealth of the white people and the poverty of the black people. The poet had obviously hoped that things would change by the time he came back but to his dismay nothing has changed and it seems like that things have gotten worse.

Urban and Suburban Secondary Education There is a big disparity between urban and suburban secondary education in public schools. Many critics of this inequality are arguing that urban schools are not receiving the same attention as schools that are in suburban areas or wealthier parts of country. Urban schools are facing a large crisis on there hands, these schools are not meeting the required criteria in educating and graduating their students. So, why is there a huge inequality between urban and suburban secondary public schools? Much of the debate falls around school funding and how much schools are given to operate. Many urban schools are not being given enough money to educate its students, pay its teachers, buy new books, and afford technology that could be used in the classroom in order to educate its students. Though funding plays an important role in education another issue that urban schools are facing is prejudice from teacher towards minority and lower income students; students who fit description are often t hought of as worthless because either they are receiving low test scores, can not speak English well, create trouble in the classroom or they are simply thought of as futile. While minorities fall under prejudice, illegal immigrant students are being attacked because they are attending public schools at the expense of tax payers. Illegal immigrants are being blamed for much of reasons that schools are finding themselves in the red when it comes to school funding; simply illegal immigrants are breaking the piggy bank and leaving schools in the hole as the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) puts it. In retrospect what ultimately is happening is that students in urban secondary public schools whom... ...ducational opportunitiesprovided to U.S. citizen children, and that there was no evidence that the U.S. government seriously intended to deport the parents of the illegal alien children. My Very First Experience in Completing an Assignment

I am currently a student taking â€Å"Language Description Course† in Open University Malaysia at Sandakan Branch. The aim of this course is to analyze grammar and describe relevant grammar rules. I started this course from January 2013 and to demonstrate what I have learnt on the HBEL 1203 Language Description Course I have to fulfill an assignment. I have to select an authentic text in the printed media such as newspaper, magazines or journal of a reasonable length and then I will have to identify one word for each type of verb from the authentic source that I have selected.After identifying the correct type of verb, I have to explain clearly the criteria used in identifying them according to the context. The first briefing of this assignment happened in an afternoon class which was my second tutorial session. The class tutor explained to us how to go on with the assignment. AS the tutor started talking about this assignment I felt so nervous that suddenly I got the feeling I will not be able to finish this assignment. In my nervous state I fumbled my book, papers, and stationary all the while stumbling over the assignment questions on my mind which was not making any sense to me.But my classmates were really understanding, as they were old students who were aware that I am new to this subject and so they tried to calm me down, all the while the tutor was still giving her explanation on how to go about completing the assignment. I sat at the back of the classroom trying to understand the task in the assignment and I left the session as soon as the class was over without speaking to anyone. I felt so miserable at that time that I started to think about quitting the course. I was upset with my own self because of my inability to understand the task even after the class tutor explained clearly in front of the class.I started to think that I need some time to be alone that would help me get over my nervousness. I was so mortified that I rang in sick the fo llowing week and it was only when I had calmed down that I decided I need to speak either to my classmates or the class tutor about this. I also realized later that it was perfectly natural to feel nervous, as I am not used to doing such task. I telephoned a fellow classmate and she made me feel much better. I realized that everyone feels scared at first and probably stumbles through their first few assignments.When I calmed down I felt my actions at that time did not help me in resolving the situation. I should not have left immediately after the class session without speaking either to the class tutor or my classmates. I should have stood up to the class tutor and should have spoken to her immediately after the lesson about how I was feeling. Dealing with situations like this immediately is preferable, as Cooper (2001) points out. Instead I spoke to my classmate several days later and did not see the class tutor again until a formal class two weeks later.Daynes and Farris (2003) s ay that, by not dealing with situations immediately and personally and instead taking it to an authority figure, the situation can be made worse. In retrospect, I could have done several things differently. I should have spoken to the class tutor immediately after the session and voiced my opinions. I should also have been bolder and stood up for myself so that I retained control of the task that had to be done. I think the main thing I learned from this task fulfillment is that I had not built up any relationship whatsoever with the teacher in the preceding weeks and that I should have made an effort to do so.I would then have been able to explain easily and more comfortably to her how nervous I was feeling. In future, I will make sure to build up more of a relationship with classmates and my class tutor. I am studying along with several classmates and I will speak to each of them about my feelings about the course. I have already had a good conversation with several of them and we have worked out a way of being a team so that I do not feel so pressurized. I will also need to do this with the class tutor, as I cannot expect her to understand how my difficulties if I keep quiet.I also need to speak to my fellow classmates more often about how they feel, as I think I will be able to learn from them. By being in team of my classmates, I discovered the advantages of working as part of a group discussion. I learned that good teamwork in a group discussion is the key to success in doing any task when time and resources are limited. As everyone had their own point of view, many different ideas could be produced and I found the energy of group participation made me feel more energetic about contributing something.I also discovered that even the simplest things on earth could be turned into something amazing if we put enough creativity and effort into working on them. In terms of learning, I am now able to analyze grammar and describe relevant grammar rules. It also h as given me the opportunity to apply the rules of grammar accurately and effectively in different contexts. I feel I need to gain more confidence and to the best of my knowledge think this is the best way to start.

INTRODUCTION Published in 1386, The Legend of Good Women is the third longest poem of the Chaucer’s works, after The Canterbury Tales and Troilus and Criseyde. This medieval work is not only an average poem in the form of Chaucer’s dream vision, but above all is possibly the first significant work in English to use the iambic pentameter or decasyllabic couplets, which became an important part of English literature. In the recent years, the poem has been the subject of several studies on gender issues among many critics of literature, which have been trying to properly analyze and interpret the content of the work. Many of literary scholars such as Elaine Tuttle Hansen, Carolyn Dinshaw, Pricilla Martin and quite a few others unanimously argue that rather than a work about women, the Legend is actually more about false men and how they are â€Å"feminized.† Furthermore, they also touch upon a very important issue relating to the presentation of men in an unfavourable light, as ‘false’ characters.
